By knowing who we are in Christ, we are empowered to embrace the future He has for us.
When we know how much God loves us, we will pursue a relationship with Him as His son or daughter.
There is always room for more at the table. Together, nothing is impossible.
Jesus came to serve and give His life as a ransom for many. Since He gave everything for us, we passionately give everything for Him.
Our financial resources are God's to be used as He desires.
our beliefs
This is not, nor is it meant to be, an exhaustive description of the beliefs held by Vertical Church. Many of these are held by Christians across many denominations. Outside of a few foundational pillars, we follow the motto of St. Augustine, “In essentials, unity; in matters of opinions, liberty; in all things, love.”
God is the Creator of all things. He is eternal, all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-loving. We believe this world and all humanity began with Him and is all held together by Him. God is eternally existent in three persons: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal, also known as The Trinity. (see Genesis 1:1,26,27; Genesis 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity. He was born of a virgin and is 100 percent God and 100 percent human. He is the only man ever to have lived a sinless life. He died on the cross for humankind and atoned for our sins through the shedding of His blood. He rose from the dead on the third day, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return again in power and glory. (see Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1, John 1:14; John 20:28-29; Philippians 2:5-6; 1 Timothy 2:5, 1 Timothy 3:16)
Salvation is a gift from God. You are saved from the eternal consequences of your sin and given eternal life in and through Jesus Christ. Salvation is about what God has already don't for you – not what you can do for Him. In order to be saved, we must believe in Jesus Christ and submit to His will for our lives. (see Romans 10:9-10; Acts 16:31; Galatians 2:16; Galatians 3:18; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; Hebrews 9:22)
Sin, by definition, is an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law. Literally, it is "missing the mark." Biblically, sin is when a person does anything that is out of line with the perfect character and direction of God. Sin causes a separation between creation and God. Because God so loved the world, He had a plan to save us from our sin. That plan is Jesus. (see 2 Corinthians 11:3; 1 John 3:8; John 8:44; John 3:16; Isaiah 53:5; Ephesians 2:8-9)
Sanctification is the ongoing process of submitting to God's Word and Spirit to complete the development of Christ's character in us. It is both and event and a journey. Sanctification is not about perfection, it is about progression. It is the Holy Spirit's continued work in us to become more like him. God is the one who does the work of making us more like Christ. We participate in the work by continually turning away from sin and demonstrating our faith in Christ by obeying God's commands. (see Romans 5:2; 1 Corinthians 1:30; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; Hebrews 13:12)
Spirit Baptism is the promised gift of God to all believers, sent by Jesus after His ascension. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit gives us power to live how He wants us to live and to be witnesses of Jesus Christ – empowering the Church to preach, teach, and spread the Gospel throughout the earth. The Holy Spirit is manifested in our lives through spiritual gifts that are meant to build and sanctify the church, demonstrate the resurrection, and confirm the power of the Gospel. These gifts operate in harmony with Scripture and should never be used in violation of the parameters of Scripture. (see Joel 2:28-29; Matthew 3:11; Mark 16:17; Acts 1:5; Acts 2:1-4,17,38-39; Acts 8:14-17; Acts 10:38,44-47; Acts 11:15-17; Acts19:1-6; Hebrews 2:4; Romans 1:11, Romans 12:4-8; Ephesians 4:16; 1 Timothy 4:14; 1 Timothy 1:6-7; 1Corinthians 12, 1 Corinthians 14)
The church consists of all who put their faith in Jesus Christ. We are the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for fulfillment of Jesus’ Great Commission. Every person who is born of the Spirit is an integral part of the church as a member of the body of believers. There is spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. The church exists to carry on the ministry of Jesus and further advance His kingdom by baptizing and teaching the nations to love and obey God. (see Ephesians 1:22, Ephesians 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23; John 17:11, 20-23; Matthew 28)
Prayer creates intimacy with God. It deepens our dependence on Him and sharpens our faith. When we pray, we choose to put everything in God's hands, knowing that His presence will show up in every aspect of our lives and in those around us. We pray confidently knowing that our prayers are powerful and can bring about change in any circumstance.
While humans are not eternal (in and of themselves), we will exist eternally either separated from God by sin or with God through forgiveness and salvation. (see Matthew 5:3,12,20; Matthew 6:20; Matthew 19:21; Matthew 25:34,41; John 17:24; 2 Corinthians 5:1; Hebrews 11:16; 1 Peter 1:4; Mark 9:43-48; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 14:9-11; Revelation 20:12-15; Revelation 21:8)
Section Title
Our heart is for all people to be loved and welcomed any time they encounter our church family.
This is the large, corporate gathering of our church community every Sunday. Service times may come and go, locations may change, but our gathering is always centered on worshipping God and connecting with others.
Serve teams are one of the primary ways we experience community at Vertical Church. By joining a team, you begin making a difference and discovering your purpose while you serve others. We can all play a part in what God is doing no matter our age or background. Our teams serve together, grow together, worship together, and have fun together.
Currently, we offer one type of group environment for adults – our Freedom groups. These are 12-week groups that happen twice a year – in the spring and fall. Outside of these, we encourage our church family to gather with their serve teams and organically with others in the church family.
